Seven Areas of Support that Can Dramatically Improve One's Quality of Life

The purpose of the Sick Leave Bank is to provide a means of obtaining additional sick leave days to avoid loss of compensation due to a catastrophic illness or injury of the employee sick leave bank member that requires intermittent or continuous absence from work.  Catastrophic injury or illness is defined as a life-threatening condition or combination of conditions affecting the mental or physical health of the employee, and includes, but is not limited to, the following: lengthy hospitalizations, necessary surgery requiring a lengthy recovery, an ongoing treatment regimen requiring frequent time off work, or complicated pregnancy requiring bed rest or hospitalization.  The catastrophic illness or injury must require the services of a health provider. This benefit is available to eligible, voluntarily participating members who have legitimately exhausted all of their accumulated sick and vacation leave.

Kinetic Capital's Child Support Fund was created to help non custodial parents meet their child support obligations. First, by reducing state-owed arrears and eliminating the balance owed by the NCP. The primary purpose of this fund is tri-fold: the NCP is able to contribute to their child's wellbeing, they are able to increase their own quality of life by being able to afford childcare and living costs for themselves, and this fund also helps the custodial parent by reducing their expenses. The program is expected to strengthen families by securing financial support for children from their noncustodial parents on a consistent and continuing basis to enable some of those families to remain self-sufficient.

The Kinetic Capital Healthcare Fund was created to help cover the cost of or subsidize health insurance expenses. Many people face barriers that prevent or limit access to needed health care services. There are many barriers to healthcare which include; lack of health insurance, poor access to transportation, and limited health care resources. Inadequate health insurance coverage is one of the largest barriers to health care access, and the unequal distribution of coverage contributes to disparities in health.

Emergencies are expensive.

LIFE IS FULL OF unexpected surprises. A car repair, illness and unemployment can catch you off guard and leave you financially stranded. When the unexpected happens, it’s important to have a stash of cash set aside in an emergency fund. The Kinetic Capital Emergency Fund was created to help individuals and families bounce back more quickly from these unexpected events by helping to subsidize insurance expenses and deductibles. The goal is to help avoid missing work or to help cover costs of repairs and recovery.

Even if you don’t have any other assets to pass to your heirs, you can create an inheritance by buying a life insurance policy and naming them as beneficiaries. In addition to providing income to cover everyday living expenses, your family needs insurance to cover any outstanding debts, like the mortgage, credit cards and car loans. Other expenses include funeral and burial costs that can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars. You don’t want your spouse, parents, children or other loved ones to be left with any extra financial burden in addition to the emotional burden they’re already suffering. Kinetic Capital's Life Insurance Fund was created to help find affordable life insurance policies or subsidize the cost of life insurance.

The very same obstacles that make it hard for people released from prison to succeed — homelessness, a lack of transportation, barriers to healthcare, and more — also make it harder to stay safe from the coronavirus. At this moment, where it is well established that depopulating prisons and jails is critical for health and safety on both sides of the walls, it is critical that policymakers focus on the overlooked hardships faced by formerly incarcerated people. We review our research on the struggles of formerly incarcerated people on housing, income and employment, health care, communication, paying burdensome “supervision” fees. Kinetic Capital's Returning Citizen Fund was created to help develop a reintegration model as well as to fund other ongoing successful programs running in and around Baltimore City.
